It is my pleasure to welcome you to the School Sport ACT (SSACT) website. Many of you will recognise the changes which have been made in order to increase efficiency and ensure we provide all our stakeholders, students, teachers, parents and officials, with an effective and efficient means of information dissemination.
In recent times there have been significant changes made in the SSACT Office. The Executive Office role has been replaced with an Operations Manager. The title change reflects the SSACT approach and focus which is to oversee the operations of SSACT and work more closely with community sports. The Operations Manager is now assisted by a Sport Co-ordinator and Support Officer to ensure all sporting teams have access to the support they require in the delivery of school sport within the ACT.
Over many years school sport throughout Australia has provided the pathways and encouragement for thousands of students to represent their schools, regions, their state of territory and even Australia. SSACT is honoured to again be able to facilitate these opportunities for the 60,000 students across the ACT.
I wish to thank School Principals for endorsing school sport, the teachers who go “above and beyond” to provide these opportunities for students, the students for their enthusiastic engagement and finally the parents who provide the taxi services and supporting roles during trials, training and competition. Without all of us working together school sport within the ACT would not exist.
During 2015 the ACT managed to deliver the third largest team at the Pacific School Games. The sight of over 400 ACT athletes and officials was indeed a very proud moment for all those involved. With the School Sport Australian Pacific Schools Games now back on the 2017 calendar several sports can look forward to using 2016 as a year of preparation. For other sports 2016 will present a fantastic opportunity for challenge and excitement.
I wish all our stakeholders an exciting 2016 of competition.
